What Young India Wants..Thoughts & Reflections on 70 Years of Independence.
When
the whole world is looking at RIO Olympics 2016 and few criticizing India on not
winning medals, Let’s all look at this great country which by name itself is
the biggest medal all of us can proudly bear on our hearts.
Being a millennial (born
after 80’s), I have observed this particular trait of passion to achieve and
the hot blood flowing through all the youngsters. Millennial’s also called as the Multi Taskers, Obsessive,
Tech Savvy and the always connected generation which is going to share more
than 50% of the workplace shortly.. With all this credits, let’s analyze what
young India Wants. We may not be strong at Politics, but we surely know how
policies should look like, we may not be among the top most bureaucrats’, but
we surely know what Bureaucracy means. Not to take side on any single party,
the biggest change witnessed in the recent elections showed how youngsters
wanted to be a part of the constructive change..
1. Basic Amenities
As all of us know Food,
Water & Shelter form the basic amenities for any human being. But we always
tend to project a rosy picture of developed India to the whole WORLD only in
terms of the so called METRO/CAPITAL Cities. But how many of us really know 82%
of rural India still lacks basic Ameneties. No proper drinking water(includes the metro
cities!!!!), Individual Sanitation Facility (Remember Vidhya Balan Ad) , Roads
in good condition is definitely a dream, Proper underground drainage system is
another big question mark to be answered yet.
2. Communication – Digital India
We are a part of the
telegram, postal card, Inland letter, Email, Orkut, Whatsapp, Face book &
Twitter,2G, 3G,4G generation. We have got all the privilege of witnessing the
biggest change that happened in Communication system right in front of our
eyes. We feel so happy about it..But at the same time, once again it is only a
part of India that is enjoying this privilege. Its quite disturbing to note
that only 35% of India uses internet and we wish this % leap increases
predominantly in the coming years. Hope the idea of SMART CITIES will be a mode
of transport that would carry this facility to every nook and corner of India. The
idea of improving Agriculture (back bone of India) through digital medium would
be another feather in the cap. We wish Agriculture also gives the dream income
to all the farmers, thereby creating more job opportunities.
3. Infrastructure & Services
A major sector which drives
the Indian Economy, it really needs a catalyst for India’s overall development
to propel the biggest change in Infrastructure Sector. India has abundant sources
of Renewable / Non- Renewable energy which when put on proper use can do
wonders. We witness the ageing of Roads, Railways and other sectors, there
definitely needs a bigger connect between the public and private sectors to overcome
this major gap. Though we find many reforms being brought in by any Government that
is in power, we would wish the legacy to continue in a manner where we would be
able to quickly remove the bottle necks.
4. Education System
Education system in our
country has always been criticized though we have a structured system in place.
It can be observed that the number of schools, colleges, IIT’s, IIM’s are
getting bigger in number and the competition to get into them is also becoming
bigger. For Eg: Even if the score is 99.9 and you find you still have 10+
students to be placed in the top most schools/colleges it can be understood
that in our Education system students study only to get marks, and they become
the unrealistic victims of the rat race.
With the mindset of parents
also changing / deviating from the prestigious professions, we are able to find
parents are now focusing on the passion and likes of their kids. In such a
situation, we really want skill based
education where creativity, original thinking, problem solving capability,
decision making are some attributes the students gain naturally thereby
developing confidence in them to achieve more. We want the technology to be
implemented in bringing education closer to the rural India where we have so
many gems waiting to be identified and chiseled to be precious gems of future.
Finally…
We want the policy makers to
realize that “ONE SIZE FITS ALL” approaches
will no longer give fruitful results in the longer run. The disconnect between
the policy makers and the common public is clearly visible.
These are some of the very
few issues that crossed my mind. All these thoughts would have definitely
reflected in our minds at least once in all these 25+ years..but lets all take
that single step forward to bring about a Constructive Change. Bear it in mind,
it’s not for you and me..It’s for generations to come.
We don’t want to look at
other countries for Role models, instead want to create our INDIA as Role Model to the world.
We want to be a part of the biggest change, India has ever
witnessed after Independence.
We don’t want the hard work
and sacrifices made by our legends to go in vain.

BHARAT MAHAAN..JAI HIND..
